Rubik’s cube

What is a Rubik’s cube?

The Rubik’s Cube is a 3-D combination puzzle invented by a Hungarian architect and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik.

Why was Rubik’s cube invented?

It was invented in the year 1974 to help explain three-dimensional geometry via a working model. It is widely used as a teaching tool to help students understand 3D objects.

It is also said that Ernő Rubik’s actual purpose was solving the structural problem of moving the parts independently without the entire mechanism falling apart.

How is a Rubik’s cube solved?

The goal of a Rubik’s Cube puzzle is to start with some randomized, shuffled, messy configuration of the cube and, by rotating the faces, get back to the original solved pattern with each side being a single color.

Why is Rubik’s cube good for children? What age?

Many people own a Rubik’s Cube, a plastic, three-dimensional puzzle. One of the most best-selling toys of all times, Rubik’s Cubes are not only challenging and fun, they are good for you in many ways.

Rubik’s Cube is the best brainteasers for Ages 8 to 12. As studies have noted, while solving a Rubik’s Cube, the brain cells are kept activated. It also improves the brain’s cognitive mapping skills.

When a child solves this puzzle, he feels satisfied, accomplished, and confident.

The current record held for the fastest solve of the Rubik’s Cube is currently 3.47 seconds by Yusheng Du, of China, who beat the record of Feliks Zemdegs by 0.75 seconds.

As the cube has 43 quintillion possible positions, there are many variations to solving this mind-bending puzzle.

Here are five reasons why the Rubik’s Cube has won over so many minds:

  • Improves memory: Remembering algorithms, repeating the steps, improves your muscle memory.

  • Improves reflexes:  When you memorize multiple algorithms, while twisting the cube, you develop sharp reflexes and incredible hand-eye coordination. They can help you visually identify items quickly, read, and notice colors faster.
  • Improves problem-solving skills: You learn the basis for problem solving skills, i.e. breaking a problem down into smaller parts and addressing each item one by one. With over 43 quintillion options to twist and turn, the Rubik’s Cube helps you learn and realize that every twist affects subsequent moves and you must focus and turn each section carefully.
  • Improves patience: This puzzle requires perseverance. It could take hours to solve, this puzzle. People who work at this must sit, think, and twist. Then sit, think, and twist again and again.
  • Improves concentration: All the time we are surrounded by flashing screens and beeping phones. This has made people lose focus and concentration on one task for long time. When solving a Rubik’s Cube, one need to focus. Therefore, solving Rubik’s cube helps in improving the concentration and focus.

So take out your Rubik’s Cube and dust it off today!
